I did the tests that you told me. With the leads disconnected, I checked that the torch head was not shorted by touching the inside and outside metal. I did not get a reading i.e. there was no short.
Then I checked the pilot wire. I put my tester at the pilot lead end and then touched the INSIDE metal. I did NOT get a reading. Then I touched the OUTSIDE metal of the torch head and I DID get a reading! But your post says that I should get a reading only on the inside. What could be the problem? In any case the pilot wire is not broken.
Below is a link with a picture of my torch. I think it is the thermal kind you described.
Also I called a person for some more advice in troubleshooting this problem since I did not have access to the Internet to tell you what I had found. Can you take a look at this web page; I would like a second opinion. I took many pictures and I describe all that I did. I think the problem might be the “Cutter control board” but I am not certain.
