if not familiar with inner works of an inverter power source do not get covers off!!!!, u will absolutely get the shock of your life, the noise u hear should be hi frequency transformer, thats good, but is not getting out to torch head, there is a pilot wire that carries this from the unit to the torch head, or the torch head is shorted, these are the most 2 common problems, do u know how to use a meter to check for a short, example put your meter on ohm scale x1 or lowest ohm scale on meter, touch leads on meter together, this is what u will se on shorted torch head, to check pilot lead wire u will get nothing on meter screen if wire is broken somewhere in torch cable, usually up by torch head, disconnect power from wall to pow con unit, remove torch leads at unitremove shield cup, tip and nozzle or what ever each manufacturer calls there parts, touch inside metal in torch to outer metal on torch if no rading on meter torch should be ok, then check inside metal in torch to other end of torch lead to check pilot wire, there should be 2 circuits to torch head one for pilot (hf), and one to carry cut current. please if u try to find problem with power on u could get seriously injured, now type of torch, thermal dynamics and weldcraft made torches for this machine, or someone could have put an aftermarket torch, thermal has handle that is a smooth round tube with rubber covering the switch, weldcraft has curvey hanle that is held together with screws and trigeer is like operating a mig gun, let me know so i can try to help u. mac
