WITHOUT A SERIAL# FROM BIG 40 I DO THE BEST I CAN MAKE SURE ALL SLIP RINGS AND BRUSHES ARE IN GOOD, THERE IS A RESISTOR WITH A SLIDE ADJUSTMENT ON IT, IT GETS CORRODED SOMETIMES OR EVEN BURNS OPEN THE RESISTOR THIS RESISTOR IS USUALLY ABOUT 2INCHES DIAMETER AND ABOUT 5 TO 6 INCHES LONG, THESE ARE EASIER PROBLEMS TO CHECK, METER ELECTRICAL KNOWLEDGE AND PROPER WIRING DIAGRAM NEEDED FOR MORE EXTENSIVE TESTING, AS FOR THE AUXILIARY VOLTAGE POSSIBLY TO HI OF ENGINE SPEED AT LO RPM SETTING AN HI RPM SETTING OR BECAUSE OF NO WELD LOAD ON GENERATOR ENGINE SPEED COULD BE HI, WORRY ABOUT WELD OUTPUT 1ST. BE CAREFUL NAD GOOD LUCK
