Is it an acceptable practice to weld on pre hardened 4142 steel? It is a 30 RC yet and machinable. The GMAW process would be used. Would it be more desirable to use material in it's anealed state? The work is a 3/4" dia. shaft that needs to be fastened to a flange. Low carbon steel may also be a option but we are concerned about it's strength. Thanks for any input,John
