Standard squirrel cage induction motors can work with vfd's.

However, precautions need to be followed relating to cooling the motor. Assuming a 50Hz motor is used, full rated torque can be delivered from 20Hz to 50Hz without the need to de-rate. However, if requiring full rated torque less than 20Hz, a separately powered cooling fan is required to keep the motor cool, as the standard shaft mounted fan is now running too slow to keep the motor cool.
