That rules out some things. What does the corrosion look like, specifically where does it occur on the pins, adjacent to the silver, uniformly on all of the surfaces, as little patches, etc.

Also can you tell me what steel it is, stainless vs carbon steel and what alloy? Does the fabric undergo any mechanical stresses? Is heat used in the formation of the fabric? What is the material that the silver is ionically bonded to?
