If you're sure it's just grey cast or nodular iron... AND it isn't needed for the structural integrity of the base stove - Get out the "sawsall" and follow a straight edge clamped on, or plan a "return" that wraps around to cover the wavy edge. Cast should cut/drill/machine very readily!!
