Hello, once again many thanks for your replies. The reason I am inquisitive is that I had a relative whose job title was engineer's Turner, working in one of the steel Mills\factories in Sheffield(I assume in the machine shop) England. As far as I can ascertain, a Turner is someone who has chosen to specialise in a particular area of Lathe usage i.e Turning.I know that he had at least 20 plus years experience and was just trying to get a picture of the degrees of skill he might have acquired in Turning steel over this period. For example, I should imagine it would take a while to be able to make a crankshaft\camshaft with conventioanl turning, but I could be wrong.I can't imagine he would be turning out the same basic cylinders/shafts/pistons/bushings etc over 20/30 years -but then again I could be wrong.I would be greatful if you have any more knowledge as to what a skilled Turner with 20 yaers experience might produce, or if you know of any links on the web where this kind of info might be available. Thanks alot for your time and trouble, Ron
