carbide inserts or throw a way inserts were desidgned to elliminate the need for in house grinding departments in the late 1950's. later as inserts became more popular and volume increased regrinding came into effect. then came the unground inserts designed to elliminate grinding on applications which didnot require close tolerance. today inserts have become priced so low it does not pay for small volume users to try and grind their own. economics it the gereral rule. refer www.migatron-precision.com for more info.
