I have a small gunsmithing business and I want to buy a lathe to expand my capabilities. I am seeking suggestions for a lathe. My primary requirements are the following; 36" between centers (minimum), greater than 1" hole through the spindle, preferably single phase motor.

I am currently learning how to use a lathe but I would like to purchase one that will last me for a long time. Are the import lathes I see advertised such as Jet, Grizly, Central Machine etc.. something I should investigate. I like the bench top lathes for their compact size but I am not adverse to going to the large style lathes if I can afford it and get it into my shop without tearing out the walls.
