Is is possible to buy say brass or Dural pre extruded as gears,
say 10 tooth and 60 tooth to AGMA dimensions [I would have to
read up a bit on the standards but you get the idea]??
Then all I would need to do is part off a section and braze
it on to a collar or shaft [well for the brass one at least].
This is for possible commercial gate opener hardware.
The fit/surface finish can be pretty ordinary,
as the design life would be 10000 operations at 1-5 rpm or so
final drive speed and torques around 20-40 Nm.

Chain or elastomer belt reductions are not appropriate for the
application.

Alternatively, perhaps designers use engineering plastics - Rynon sp??
ie chopped glass fibre filled plastics for these applications.
Perhaps there are injection moulders in the US who sell helical
gears like this off the shelf by the bag full ?? Any emails or websites for reputable
vendors in this area appreciated.

cheers,

[and if you send replies direct/post on the board, that's
fine !]
