There are also various precisions in xtals as well. If you evaluate don't forget the Tempco.
I would just go ahead and use the RTC.
I think that the 32Khz clock crystals are pretty cheap and accurate.
All they require is a 15 bit counter, and an oscillator. 2 inverters or some such.
And so on.. It's easist if you make a comparison chart up; using the criterion you are interested in. When you have several very similiar solutions just go with price, second source or something.
