We are an engineering firm involved in production welding and hardfacing. We specialise in the use of robotics and automation in our processes. We are based in australia. We have Hitachis (from before lincoln were with fanuc), fanucs (RJ-2,RJ-3,100i,710) but all our newest robots are yaskawa motomans on XRC's (XRC-UP20). We use our robots upside down, on linear positioning rails moving between external axis rotator bays. We do large production runs AND jobbing.

Our main focuses are on moving towards smaller production runs, more flexible manufacturing systems. We are interested/working on touch sensing, vision systems, seam tracking, offline programming, integration of 3D modelling packages into automation systems, jig design etc.

Our next project is a completely offline programmable FMS which is equipped with laser cutter, pressing machine and cutting machine and palletization for parts preparation. Welding of the final assembly is performed robotically.

We have met an overcome many problems in these fields but still have many unresolved. As we work towards these goals other people might be doing the same. We have a wealth of information on these systems which many people might not have. Mostly im interesting in building the hottest mechatronics systems ever built and am looking for other people who share the same interests. If you are in robotics or automation of welding processes, and especially if you know Motomans send me an email, i would love to share info.
