Hello everyone, please forgive my incredible ignorance on this subject. I am just a beginner. I want to make a circuit with a phototransistor. The phototransistor's light source would be a computer monitor... and the idea of the circuit would be to put out an output voltage X when the computer monitor displays White, and an output voltage of 0 when the computer monitor displays Black.

So, I imagine the first thing I would have to do would be to figure out the lux of a computer monitor when it displays white light, and its lux when it displays Black--and then purchase the appropriate phototransistor. I have no idea how to do this. Can you tell me how to go about this project?
