I saw this just now. If you are still interested in this topic, here is my answer.


No. X-ray don't do anything to the sample or Kerosene. Your idea is good. But you have prepare an oriented mount of your treated smectite sample and loo for ool spacing around 3-5 degrees two-theta on XRD mechine, XRF will not tell you anything. Good Luck!
