Hi Aaron, Radiology is one of my hobbies, mainly reptiles and small mammals. It has not cost a great deal of money but a lot of hours of work. My x-ray tube is de-mountable which means it is constantly pumped by a diffusion and rotary combination. It operates either in the conventioal thick target or transmission ( thin target)mode. This allows the generation of X-rays from 3kilovolt to my maximum of 50 Kilovolts. When not in use it is parked on an ion-pump.You need a knowledge of radiation physics, high-vacuum technology, lathe machining,silver-soldering, power supply electronics, glass working, sputtering, vacuum evaporation, photography, patience and an understanding wife.If you have those you should have no problems.
