We regularly manufacture nihard wear resistant iron castings. The charge for this metal is 310 Stainless steel scrap and castiron scrap added in suitable proportions. For carbon pickup graphite powder is added. The metal is melted in an induction furnace and before tapping ferrosilicon additionis made. Also the metal is treated with ferrotitanium (0.1%). The molda are Co2 sand molds and cores are nobake. About 15 minutes after pouring we can see cauliflower effect. After the riser is knocked outporosity is observed, but this is not noticed in other parts of the casting(The pump casing was destroyed). This is baffling me. Please can someone help?
