From all the articles that I have read so far about impedance control of a track, it seem that the variables of calculating impedance are the track width, track thickness and also dielectric constant. Why is the track length is not considered when calculating the track impedance? How do I go about designing a board with certain impedance control on their tracks (for instance 50 ohms)? My last question is, there is also another variable called distributed capacitance, which is cause by vias, sockets and so on, how do I get these values when calculating the trace impedance of a track? Thank you in advance.
