Hi B.S.
Are you having problems loading the Gerber files into Protel or the CAMtastic!
2000 Designers addition that comes with Protel to view and edit the Gerber files?
I don't know Protel, but I do know a thing or two about Gerber data, my company is
a re-seller of, and helped in the early development of Innovative CAD's Camtastic! software.
It sounds like it could be one of four possible problems with the Gerber files:
1. The input format for the Gerber data is incorrect.
Although "Gerber" is "Gerber" is comes in many different "flavors."
You will need to know what the format of the Gerbers are to start with, and what formats of
Gerber Protel will import.
2. There is some stray form of, or piece of data located far away from the bulk of the design.
This could be anything, a piece of text, a pad, a trace, or even just a "move" command
in the Gerber file.
3. The Gerber data's datum (origin) point is located too far away from the artwork
This could also be a reason that the files "zoom" out. Your viewer may be trying to
display the Gerbers from the 0/0 point.
4. One or more of the Gerber files is corrupt.
Try loading them into Protel one at a time.
Best of luck!
