I purchased Zuken Cadstar 4.0 (Bronze--the smallest
level) and have used it schematic capture, layout,
and hand routing for two small boards (about 300
pins, 200 nets). It works very well under both
Windows NT and 2000--only occasionally crashed.
With the purchased version, you get some pretty
good tutorial documentation. I had no problems
generating good PCB design outputs. It has been
several years since I used OrCAD, so I cannot
provide a comparison, but I would recommend
Cadstar for smaller designs (I haven't used the
autorouter).
