I never tried Protel, I thought it was too complex. Am I wrong?

I imagined a software that would let me snap standard elements (R, C, Q, IC) onto a single-sided (2-sided at the most) PC-board, then connect the pins with straight lines, and once the "ratsnet" was complete, do the auto-routing (or auto-tracing) for me.

Many of the simple programs let you create a nice artwork, but you have to route the traces in your own head.

Would you still recommend Protel for what I need?
