Using Sc metal is certainly possible......but very very expensive.
Commercial 2 % master alloy is made from 99.0 % Sc2O3.
There is also a flouride route pioneered by Ashurst and a thermite one patented by Alcoa.
It is ' much ' more effective to buy the master alloy and then make your finished alloys yourselves. Mass production by us means that we get cheaper Sc2O3, and can thus provide the master alloy cheaper than you can make it.
