A standard peak detector circuit is in Figure 7 of National Semiconductor's application note, AN-4. Any op amp can be used but it has to be fast enough to capture the pulse. Also, the Maxim website has a droopless circuit that has no holding capacitor: http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/appnote_number/706/ln/en
