I have used this UCN5804 chip successfuly with dot matrix printer motorīs. If you are using the parallel port to send the step signals, as charles said, it may be going to fast so you have to put a 1 to 5 milliseconds delay between steps in the program. For example if it is in QBASIC, a FOR loop that consumes enough time through cycles. Try with different number of cycles or perhaps with two nested FORs.
