You should not try to drive the H-bridge with a square wave because both the upper and lower transistors will be on during the switching transient, which will destroy the transistors. You need a dead time so one set has time to turn off/on before the other set is turned on/off.. control ICs are made for this purpose, check out Texas Instruments UC3526 and simular ICs.
