Subject: 12V motor speed control

I need to make up a speed control for a 12v DC motor.
It can draw quite a few amps so I'd need a large rheostat,
or a "fet" system that could produce as much as 10 amps
peak.
I read somewhere about "use a power MOSFET, driving the
gate from a low power pot. The IRF540 or IRFP044 will
handle the current." By Russ Kincaid.

If you could help me, I'd need a schematic and where to
purchase componets online info.
