Hi. A simple answer to your power supply is to use the guts of an old photoflash. These run on input voltages from 3v to 12 vdc dependent on model. Secondary DC volts can go up to 300-350 vdc, but a simple zener-based limiter should be able to hold the peak down, depending on the current that your nixies use. Watch out -- these voltages can be dangerous.
