Thanks for the link but, unfortunatly, the method shown is for slot cars, which would not work in our case. As the track is 4M wide and the car can cross the finish line anywhere along it.

What I'm roughly after is a coil or loop eiher under the track or overhead which is connected to a recieving device, that is triggered when a unit in the car (sending out some form of signal) is picked up.??

Any help would be appreciated
