Thanks for your helpful comments! I have a few more comments and/or questions. The 5 min pulse is not an "exact" requirement. Thus, the timing uncertainty is not a large issue in my opinion. Regardless, for the circuit I am designing, it is not possible to use the CMOS version of the 555 because current consumption is too high. I need a current consumption of 100K? I would use a digital counter if I could find a cheap one that has a supply current of less then 100uA.

Any helpful suggestions are MUCH appreciated!!
