From where are you getting 8 volts? This was a 6 volt electric system. If you want to change the car to 12 volts, you can change the voltage regulator and all the lamps. The guages are designed to be independent of voltage, so they will work at 12 volts. The generator will not put out as much voltage at idle as a 12 volt, but you won't be idling that much. The 6 volt starter will work OK, although I did have problems with my 1946 Jeep, the bendix spring broke a few times. A 12 volt starter can be fitted if that is a problem.
