Thank you very much for your clear and concise idea. The use of the PNP device is of particular interest. I pencilled a NPN solution and promptly noticed that the emitter added another 700 mV to the 1.2v already unavailable at the top rail in my cheap opamp. (We use the same opamp for all products.) The PNP idea never occurred to me. Your solution is better.
