Thanks for the reply. So, your question is: is it necessary to vary both + and - supplies in order not to upset the common mode. I think the answer depends on the design of the amplifier, but most modern designs are independent of supply voltage in the input stages. If the supply voltage does not change faster than the output stage can respond, there should be no problem.
