BRIEF:
Does anyone know how I can control the phase of a
periodic signal?

Is there a specific device or a circuit I can use?

I have a pulse train (of variable frequency) for which I
would like to alter the phase.

DETAILS:
The pulse train will replicate a sensor on a diesel engine
for which a pulse occurs once every engine cycle (i.e. when
one of the injectors fire).

The frequency of the pulse train will obviously depend on
the engine speed.

By causing a phase shift to the pulse train (with respect to
the crankshaft pattern) the engine ECU will control an
actuator to bring the phase shift back to zero.
