I haven't had but a moment to look at this, but the first thing I see is that the International Rectifier IRF510 is parametrically tested at zero and +10 volts of gate drive. My feeling is that any application of the IRF510 should provide that +10V drive when the device is to be "on".

Is this a good clue or shall we look into it further?
