I have been set the following task as part of my HND course and would like to get some different opinions on the best way to construct the circuit;

"Design, build and test a smoothed and regulated DC power supply using simple active components only (no integrated regulators allowed). A suitable low voltage AC source will be made available to avoid possible contact with UK mains voltages. Your output should provide 12v DC at upto 500mA with negligible ripple, and be adjustable to account for component tolerances."

If anyone has ideas on the best way(s) to construct this circuit then I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks in advance,
ben m
