I think your advice is very sound, but I I'm really trouble shooting an existing ciucuit.
The problems I have seem to be clock related, but I don't have a frequency counter to check.
One build of the curcuit seems to have differect charateristics then another. Perhaps this is due to
the crystal operating at a spurious frequency? I'm not sure I'm even going in the right direction.
The reason I started at this point is differences in the clock design for projects similar to mine.
One build will operate all functions and some just low level functions.
I know a TV guy I'll go to his shop and see if I can get a reading on his scope to get the picture
of a working model and a half working models clock output to see if I even need to check this further.

P.S.
If I find I need a better clock I may get back to you for the location of the schematic of it and the level
converter. Is the Level converter a MAX232 Compatable?
