I'm having problems making a fairly simple circuit work correctly. I know how to tell components apart and generally what each is used for, but I lack the ability to put them together in such a way as to do useful work. I would like to do some useful work with them now. I would like to make a circuit (if someone could help with a schematic) that basically depicts a single PC key (using a lighted, momentary switch) instead of the standard "keyboard key".
I need to know how to construct the circuit in order to make the lamp and keyboard controller work together. I have a keyboard controller, flip-flop, and a lighted switch already (four pole type, 2 poles for the lamp, and 2 poles for the switch); I don't know if I need a relay (presumably controlled by the flip-flop) to provide "regulated" power to the lamp but I can buy one if needed. The circuit would be connected to the controller in such a way that it would still send codes to the PC just like it normally would, but instead of using the normal keyboard, I want to have a lighted momentary switch whose lamp toggles on and off with each key depression.
Basically I want to use the lighted switch(s) as a keyboard and have the lamp toggle on/off when pressed. The flip-flop should be settable so that I can start the circuit in on or off states.
It would also be great if I could get a three-element table (to aid in learning how it all works together), one element for each voltage which would show me what to do with (how to change) each of the other components when using 5vdc, 12vdc, and 16vdc lamps which are housed in the switches. I have different switches and haven't decided which to use yet.
