I've heard of the microscope Brian is talking about...they say it's great fun for the kids. Not sure if you could use it for your app.

We have a digital camera that is 10 - 104x. You could mount it on a bracket over your board. This camera would probably solve your problem. You can attach it to a good video card that has an svideo input(there are some very good video cards around these days at great prices - 200.00 to 300.00). I wouldn't use the rca inputs - they're noisy. Svideo is the way to go.
