You definitely have a fast enough computer. Make sure you go to your control panel, modems and click on more info to run a test on your modem. Make sure it is showing up as a v.90 modem and that there are no errors in any of the AT command lines. The error are blatently listed just as ex.
AT1 ErrorAT15 error.
Make sure you have tested your line to make sure that it is in fact 56k compatible. There are many lines in this country that will not support 56k and if that is the case, you are SOL unless you get a broadband connection. The phone company is only required to give you 9600 baud access through your existing line.
