Is there an inductor any place in the switch path? If so, you may be getting an inductive kick when you switch you RS232 device in and/or out. If this is the case, try shunting the path with a 1 M-Ohm bleeder resistor. I'm shooting from the hip here as I don't have the benefit of a schematic of your circuitry.
