I am an Industrial Design Student developing a product which will heat and compress post consumer plastic containers. This is to reduce the volume so that collection is more economical.

What I want to know is will crystillization of the plastic affect the recycling process?

If it does, how can I still heat the plastic to reduce its size without getting a crystillization?

What are the 'softening' temperatures for
1. PET
3. PVC
5. PP
6. PS ??

If anyone has any further information about my proposed idea (ie, if it has been done before), I would greatly appreciate contacts.

Thank you.
