I always advise caution when using additives. Mobil 1 is a PAO type synthetic with esters that make it's additives soluble.
When you place an off the shelf additive into a highly additized oil, it is reasonable to expect that some of the oil's own additives may precipitate out of solution.
I would expect a mileage increase from a Mobil1 type product to be up to 5%.Did you make any other changes? Air filter? Oil filter?Fuel filter?New plugs or ignition components? New tires? Changed tire presure? Was there a big difference in air temperature? To accurately test it is necessary to change only one variable at a time.
The only type of additives that I believe in are viscosity increasing (like a stop smoke) or an additive designed to remove deposits. These type of additives affect the base oil only. They are purpose specific. The lifted deposits end up in the filter. In fact many of the miracle additives also end up in the filter.
I would stick with a Mobil1 type of product (there are other good PAO type brands. It will do everything an oil is supposed to do for you. In the long run you will benefit from it.
Hope this helps
