If you're still interested, you may like to know that the Institute of Materials planned a seminar on this very subject in (if I remember) 1999, venue London, UK.
Unfortunately it was cancelled at the last moment and was never rearranged - because too few delegates registered.
But about 10 invited papers were lined up and others must have been investigated. (Some papers were not from the metals industries, note. The goal of the event was to show steel and aluminium processors what had been done in related fields)
I could try and contact the guys who were organising it if you like. Just let me know.
