The new Hot Hi-tec Strip Mill at Jamshedpur (A SMS mill) uses Hi Chrome rolls on the
finishing stands. The hardness of the work rolls is maintained between 63 to 65 Shore C.
(Earlier they used to use Indef chilled Double poured rolls with a hardness of 60-63 ShoreC
on F1 to F3 and 65 to 67 Shore C on F4 and F5. ). There have been recommendations from
the mill supplier recently to go up with the hardness to 69-70 Shore C on all the stands.
The operation people have yet to take a final decison.
