Hirve,
When we installed our DCS system we arranged it with the vendor to ship an operating portion of the system that included all graphics and system descriptions. The system was still in need of logic/graphic modifications but the early exposure to the MMI was a good start. Our operators are very experienced and there interest was great. If you have some operators that will be able to assist in training you should expose them to the system first. They will be your best critics and you need to listen to them.Exposing them to the system is very important. Formal training is not essential that early unless you have operators who are inexperienced. One thing you can do to better explain the control system is to do a camparision between the old system and how it does things now and the new DCS system and how it does the same tasks(leave out all the technical stuff is is not really needed), and most important how it will make things better and easier. A control system that is tuned correctly will allow the operators to do what they are paid to do, Know what to do if the system doesnt work. If it is working properly the best operators should be sitting down enjoying thier coffee.
