this is not normal. you should use a moly or Aluminum oxide liner with silver not graphite. The moly liner is easier to use as the alumina liner is a insulator and requires a more difficult start up. You might also want to make sure your vacuum is good <5x10-4 Torr and that you do not have any leaks in the system.
