Thank you for your reply.

Firstly. The chamber pump down from atmosphere to 1e-6 in about 4h. I left it over a friday and a weekend to make sure it is clean.

However, the problem can be assosiated with a cast alluminium valve that was fitted to the system. I took these off but still got a similar result. However, I will now carefully check that any other parts are not make of cast Al.
