for Nickel use a Alumina oxide liner or a glassy coated carbon liner. Nickel is magnetic and when used in a Alumina Oxide liner (insulator) it will be somewhat difficult to start the source. Bring the power up slowly over a few minutes. The nickel will loss it magnetic propeties and the alumina will start conducting once you get some heat into it. At this point the source will stop arcing and you can increase power until you achieve the desired rate.
