Hall, The reason that the mirror/Cr/Au system works is that Chromium is a "strong oxide former" and thus adheres easily to an oxide like glass and gold adheres easily to Chromium. In the SiO to Gold case, you are trying to adhere an oxide to a metal. Doesn't work wellor work at all in most cases. I have no suggestions for an alternate material that would not seriously degrade a gold mirror reflectance.Regards,Ted V V
