Robert,
It is possible to achieve reflectivities of
88-92 on polystyrene if the surface finish is
suitable.As Mike pointed out, system leaks in
either evaporation or sputter processes can ruin
a film very easily. In addition, backstreaming in a
system not properly set up for sputtering is
also very bad. As a final comment-if you are
using mold release agents, especially silicones,
you will never get there from here.
If you are using a sputtering process, I can
offer assistance as a consultant with a wide
variety of experince over 35 years in the vacuum
industry.
